Reading Wonders Reading Weekly Assessment Grade 1

Later receiving many questions on how I run my reading cake, I've finally sat down and typed upwardly a summary for you to read! Please go along in mind that what I practice in my reading block changes from week to week – I am sharing with you a quick summary.

  • My reading block starts right after specials/snack/bath. 10:25

We accept uninterrupted time upwardly until 11:55 – This is when my students who require extra remediation time outside the 90 minute reading block leave for modest grouping reading instruction (Championship ane Reading Teacher).  During this block (when some of my students are at Title 1 Reading) we finish upwardly our reading stations.

A SUMMARY OF MY READING BLOCK – WEEKLY VIEW

  • 10:25Grammar/WRITING – I follow our reading series and students complete the exercise pages from the grammar book.  Our team is also corking about sharing – Mrs. Baty, Mrs. O'dell and Mrs. Mauriell volition often create/share grammar exercise sheets/quizzes.
  • 10:45-11:00 SPELLING/VOCABULARY – There are two main worksheets that I apply for vocabulary.  Mrs. Wiggins makes wonderful exercise sheets each week 🙂  The second one I employ in the worksheet located in the student reading practice volume.  We also spend this fourth dimension writing in our writing notebooks (writing a sentence and drawing a motion-picture show, sorting spelling words by pattern).  Nosotros don't do this all in one twenty-four hour period.
  • eleven:00-11:30 – STORY OF THE Calendar week – During this fourth dimension nosotros volition work from our workshop volume, album, reading practice book, or complete a shut read exercise sheet.
  • 11:30-12:30 – READING STATIONS – During this fourth dimension I will work with students for guided reading instruction.  My other students are at a reading station (independent or computers).

It took me several weeks to get a schedule that works for me.  I have to work around several things – Offset, I have students who go pulled out for extra reading instruction (outside my 90 minute block) – Second, We have a very unlike Wednesday schedule due to our Mentor reading programme.  Below is a await at my crazy schedule.  I telephone call it crazy considering there is no way I'd call up information technology all if I didn't write it downward.

Equally you can see – I only complete 3 rotations on Monday and Tuesday.  Midweek – is just…different.  Th and Fri I complete only ii rotations due to testing.

Afterwards grammer, vocabulary, and spelling, we start our WORKSHOP book story.  I read the story aloud to my students. We terminate, talk over, and record our thinking on my close reading worksheets.  After this, it is reading stations time.

11:35-11:55 – ROTATION 1 :

  • SMALL GROUP:  On Monday we complete the Pocket-size COMPREHENSION worksheet inside the reading practice volume.  I don't accept a movie, but its normally but half a folio long.  It'due south brusk and sweet and focuses on skills we need to comprehend for the week.
  • Contained: This varies – I unremarkably extend what was skillful during grammar or vocabulary.  Sometimes students merely utilise this time as silent reading time.
  • COMPUTER: This varies – I usually accept students go on iStation (a reading program).  Sometimes they will go on a keyboarding practice site.  Sometimes they volition blazon sentences using their spelling words.

11:55 – It is during this time that I accept students leave the room for extra reading instruction.  I brand certain these students are in the group I encounter with first.  This way they don't miss out on small-scale group instruction in my classroom.

12:00-12:20 – ROTATION 2 : Students apply the chart paper to assistance them proceed track of where to go.

Later on grammar, vocabulary, and spelling, we continue our WORKSHOP volume story.  I let my students to partner read the story and if needed terminate the shut reading sail that we started yesterday.

xi:35-11:55 – ROTATION 1 :

  • SMALL Grouping:  On Tuesday we complete the LONG COMPREHENSION worksheet within the reading do book (see above film).  Some groups end this very quickly, then we accept time to complete a writing activity.  This unremarkably involves creating a thinking map that reinforces the reading skills for the week. (compare/contrast, cause/effect, sequence, etc).  Students go along these inside a reading response journal.
  • Independent: This varies – I usually extend what was skillful during grammar or vocabulary.  Sometimes students merely employ this time as silent reading time.
  • Estimator: This varies – I usually have students go along iStation (a reading program).  Sometimes they will become on a keyboarding practise site.  Sometimes they volition type sentences using their spelling words.

11:55 – It is during this time that I take students leave the room for actress reading didactics.  I make sure these students are in the group I meet with outset.  This way they don't miss out on modest group instruction in my classroom.

12:00-12:20 – ROTATION ii : Students use the chart paper to help them keep track of where to go.

12:twenty-12:forty – ROTATION three : Students use the chart newspaper to help them keep rail of where to go.

A CLOSER LOOK AT WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is very different – If I didn't have the schedule change (due to our Mentor reading program), I would follow the Monday/Tuesday Schedule.

I consummate stations beginning (only two rotations).  During modest group, the students simply read the leveled reader that follows the story of the week.  We do non finish it today.

Around x:50 – when my whole grade in dorsum,  we consummate grammar, vocabulary, and spelling.  We and then beginning our Anthology book story.  I read aloud this story and we stop, discuss, and write our thoughts downwardly using the close reading tri-folds I've typed upwards.

Afterward this, We take a little break and I do a read aloud from a affiliate book at the rug.

When we render to our desks, we complete a reading/writing activity.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THURSDAY

After grammar, vocabulary, and spelling, we continue with our ANTHOLOGY book.  Students will partner read the story of the calendar week and finish the comprehension tri-fold as needed.

Afterwards this, information technology is time for our weekly reading assessment. I usually type a written response and adhere it to the the short comprehension test.  When students are done – they may silent read.  We begin our starting time rotation around eleven:55.

12:00-12:20 – ROTATION one:

  • Small Grouping:  On Thursday we continue reading our leveled reader.  Today nosotros will terminate and choice one page to focus on.  We will create a thinking map to reinforce the reading skill of the week.
  • Figurer: This varies – I commonly have students keep iStation (a reading program).  Sometimes they volition become on a keyboarding practice site.  Sometimes they will type sentences using their spelling words.

Later grammar – I give our weekly spelling exam.  We and so review the strategies to follow during our reading test and complete the long cold read.   When students are done – they may silent read.  We begin our offset rotation around xi:55.

12:00-12:20 – ROTATION one:

  • Small GROUP:  On Friday we complete a shut reading on the master article of Scholastic News.
  • COMPUTER: This varies – I normally have students go on iStation (a reading programme).  Sometimes they will proceed a keyboarding practice site.  Sometimes they will type sentences using their spelling words.

12:twenty-12:xl – ROTATION two : Students employ the chart paper to help them keep track of where to go.
